Plasma Vampire Facials: A new era of Skincare

The field of aesthetic medicine is making use of many types of facial treatments through dermal augmentation and stimulation. The focus of such treatments is to use a bioresorbable substance. A bioresorbable substance can get absorbed in the body again. One such bioresorbable is Platelet Plasma (Platelet Plasma), which is now being successfully employed in aesthetic medicine (Zenker, 2010).

Cellular changes take place when the skin ages. There is also alteration due to many intrinsic and extrinsic factors in the protein matrix of dermal cells. Connective tissues degenerate during the aging process. It is necessary to remodel the outer cellular matrix of the aging skin to rejuvenate the skin (Yuksel et al., 2014).

What is Platelet Plasma Facial?

There has been the deployment of many systems for platelet preparation and its use for aesthetic purposes that helps in taking advantage of Platelet Plasma. One such deployment is Platelet Plasma facial. Another common term for Platelet Plasma facial is “Vampire Facial” as well. It is a method of skin care treatment in which the natural power of the body is used to heal itself. Why is this treatment called a vampire facial? Because the treatment involves the use of one’s blood. Blood is composed of four main components; red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), platelets, and plasma.

How does Platelet Plasma Facial work?

Magic happens when there is a high concentration of platelets in plasma. The blood is separated into four components by a centrifuge machine that helps in achieving a high concentration of platelet in plasma. The separated platelets are again introduced into a reduced volume of the plasma, recovered from the same blood. This results in an enhanced concentration of the platelets that is 6-7 times more concentration in this ultrafiltrate, as compared to concentration in blood. (Zenker, 2010).

There are protein growth factors in platelets like platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor (TGF), and epithelial growth factor. Therefore, these secret protein growth factors are present in Platelet Plasma. Also, there are cell adhesion molecules in Platelet Plasma, like fibronectin, fibrin, and vitronectin. Therefore, there is a key role of Platelet Plasma in cell migration, proliferation, attachment, and cell differentiation along with the accumulation of extracellular matrix in the skin (Yuksel et al., 2014).

The improvements following a Platelet Plasma treatment may be due to the insertion of the needle. The needle creates micro-wounds. This in turn activates collagen production and thickening of the dermis (Nofal et al., 2014). A professional-grade derma roller or an FDA-approved device is used for micro-needling. Micro-needling produces micro-punctures in the skin. These micro-punctures allow Platelet Plasma to get penetrated the skin. After micro-needling, the Platelet Plasma solution is massaged into that area.

Why choose Platelet Plasma Facial?

1. To increase the production of collagen in the skin

There is a drastic drop in the collagen production of the body when you reach the age of 25. This decrease is collagen production continues significantly unless you try to stimulate its production. Besides, the quality of the collagen produced after 25 years of age is also reduced. Therefore, you start seeing unhealthy skin.

Platelet Plasma facial increases collagen production. When trauma occurs to a cell, collagen production is stimulated. The process of micro-needling causes that trauma. The result is enhanced skin quality.

After micro-needling, when the Platelet Plasma solution penetrates your skin, the skin is healed by the existing collagen. However, it takes weeks for collagen of higher quality to be produced. You can notice a significant improvement in the skin immediately.

2. A reduction in wrinkles and fine lines

With the aging process comes the dilemma of fine lines and wrinkles. The increased cellular turnover, meaning when dead cells are replaced by new cells, helps in treating these common signs of aging. There is the recycling of old cells. Elastin, collagen, and new cells replace the old cells of your skin.

During the treatment, when your skin is micro-injured by micro-needling, the collagen production tightens the skin and eliminates fine lines and wrinkles from your skin. By plumping the hollow areas of your skin, the deeper folds of skin also disappear.

3. Visibly firmer and tighter skin

A firm skin requires collagen and with age, collagen production reduces. With age, there is also thinning of the skin, specifically around certain parts of your face like lips and cheeks. Your skin plumps up in the presence of collagen. Platelet Plasma facial can be used to plump up your lips or recounter your face cheeks.

4. An increase in retention of moisture by the skin

The deeper layers of your skin remain protected from the irritants in the environment when your skin is thicker and stronger. A strong skin retains moisture. Collagen production makes your skin stronger and thicker, thus helps to keep the required moisture in the skin.

5. An improved tone and texture of your skin

You can get benefits from Platelet Plasma facial if you have surgical scars, acne scars, scars resulting from any traumatic injury, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, or even if you have any other skin tone or texture problem.

You will be amazed by the improvement in your skin after the Platelet Plasma facial when new and healthy cells replace the old cells of your skin after a few days of the treatment.

6. No allergic reactions

Since the treatment uses your blood and your plasma is injected back in the body, this reduces the chances of an allergic reaction to the treatment.

7. Painless procedure

The treatment is non-invasive. An anesthetic will be applied to your skin before the treatment. Also, you can take any pain killer as well to mitigate any pain felt during or after the treatment.

8. The results achieved from Platelet Plasma facials are lasting

Some anti-aging treatments produce their effects only for certain weeks and then you again have to undergo the treatment. In contrast, the Platelet Plasma facial needs to be done every year or two.
